YSL Glossy Stain no. 4

These are so exclusive and unique. If its the one product that has no dupe out there yet, its this particular product. It's a huge big splurge but its so different from other lip products that this splurge is rather justified.
Now I only have one (will probably always own one...) but here's why I think they are just wonderful.

Price: These are around the 150 dhs mark...give or take 10 to 20.

Packaging: Stunning I think. Even the feel of the tube is cool and its sort of heavy with the beautiful YSL logo embossed on the cap. A little window gives you a peak at the product inside, whilst the outside it almost plain black. Twists open, has a beautiful wand which if you put on one lip, you can actually press your upper lip and swipe back and forth without having to go in again.

Product: Its quite difficult to explain the actual feel of these. They look like a gloss, but they are not thick or tacky. In fact, the consistency is quite thin and it feels fresh cooling. This particular color is pretty pinky mauve color. By no means are they weak in terms of pigmentation.

When the first coat is applied it look sheer, that is to say you can see through to your lips, but you let that set for a few seconds then apply a second coat. This intensifies the glossy effect and makes the color more opaque. You can stop right there, but the method is to apply another coat for full on that full on glossy effect. Then this stuff doesn't budge, granted you don't go all korma and biryani on it. Even so, it wears off in a most interesting way. When the glossy effect diminishes, the color is still there and then when the product is also worn off, the stain of the gloss remains. So it is an extremely long lasting finish from top to bottom. The whole process takes upto 6 to 8 hours and that's a lot in my opinion. Oh and they smell great like all YSL products with a faint lavender smell.

A single layer

Double layer brings on the color

Third coat makes it completely opaque with a high glossy shine, no tackiness or heaviness included.

Though the Rimmel Apocalips seem to be somewhat of a dupe, they are not, they are more like liquid lipsticks that although not tacky and highly pigmented, do not leave a stain or have the effect the YSL ones do. Same can be said for the ones Loreal has. I'll be keeping my eyes open if anything from the drugstore comes out with something along the lines of this product but until then, immensely enjoying this lippy.
