Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette

With the super success of the first palette, Urban Decay hit the jack pot again with the launch of their Naked 2 palette. There is a lot of chatter about owning both palettes, if you have one, do you need the other? In my personal opinion I think both palettes are very different. There is a shade common to both called 'Half Baked' and shades that give similar vibes, but overall the first palette is more warm toned and bronzy whereas the second palette is mostly neutral to cool toned. And so if you like neutral shadows and like Urban Decay then yes, this one is also a nice one to own in addition to the first one.

For an in depth review of the first palette just click this link.

The Naked 2 Palette also has a shade common to the Naked Basics Palette called 'Foxy'. For the review click this the link.

The Naked Basics Palette has a shade each from the first and second palettes called 'Virgin' and 'Foxy' respectively.

12 taupy mostly neutral to cool shades

Price: About 250 dhs.

Packaging: More sturdy than the Naked 1 with a metal casing and full sized mirror as opposed to the smaller one that the first one has. Also the dual ended brush is quite handy with one side to blend and the other side to lay down the product. The Naked 1 only had the single sided lay down brush. There is a solid clasp that snaps tightly shut whereas the Naked 1 has a magnetic closure. The packaging of this palette is better in my opinion.

Product: As with all Urban Decay eyeshadows, these are soft and buttery and do have some fallout. But of course the pigmentation is as to be expected and once applied they are very long lasting. As a girl with a medium skin tone I like to swatch the shades without primer or foundation underneath and in natural light to depict the exact turnout of the eyeshadow after applying it. Obviously with a primer and artificial light these become more vibrant and amazing looking. All shades are very blendable, in fact I mentioned earlier with UD shadows you are in danger of over blending.

Starting of with the first 6 shades:

L to R: Foxy, Half Baked, Booty Call, Chopper, Tease and Snakebite

Swatches corresponding to the eyeshadows above

  • Foxy is a matte yellow toned shade that looks nice a light wash of color over the lids or as an eye brow highlight.
  • Half Baked is a bronze color but with copper under tones. It has a metallic finish with some fine glitter particles.
  • Booty Call is a shimmery off white shade with slight peach undertones. Can be similarly to the foxy but I like to use it is in the inner corner. What a funky name for an eyeshadow.
  • Chopper is a coppery pink color with a metallic finish and fine shimmer, its a lovely lid color.
  • Tease is a new shade and the second matte in the palette. It comes of a medium brown with taupe mixed in. Ideal for as a blending out shade.
  • Snakebite is a medium brown with gold mixed in. Its a shimmery/ satin finish.
L to R: Suspect, Pistol, Verve, YDK, Busted and Blackout

Corresponding Swatches

  • Suspect is a cool toned lighter brown with a shimmery finish. Its a lovely all over lid color.
  • Pistol is again a cooled tone shimmery grey shade. I love this color for a smoky eye or crease color.
  • Verve is taupy mushroom shimmery color. Its lighter than pistol.
  • YDK is metallic cool toned bronze. It has fine glitter but it is very beautiful.
  • Busted (again...an awesome name) is dark taupe with purple undertones.
  • Blackout is an intense matte black which you have to be careful with because it has a slight staining effect, so you know a little goes a long way.
The Naked 2 palette has this black where the first one doesn't. I do not envy those of you who want to make a choice between the 2 palettes, its going to be a tough choice I think since both are so gorgeous. Its just a matter of preference. I love both palettes equally even though I know the cooler eyeshadows in the Naked Palette 2 look better on me.
