Victoria's Secret Metallic Eyes (The Trend: Glam shimmer and sheen)

I did a post on the items in my to go makeup pouch and I got a request to review this particular item. As far as tiny cute palettes go, this one definitely takes the prize. Its the opposite of the UD Basics palette in that it has all shimmer shades with metallic finish, which means they all have a high sheen. The word sheen implies that it gives off a reflective look, but not glittery. A nice sheen means that the shadows have to be finely milled and soft.

The Palette

Price: Around 60-90 dhs.

Packaging:
Flips open, does not have a mirror, but has a magnet click when closed, so it won't open on the go. Made of hard cadrboard, quite sturdy.

This palette contains 6 shimmery eyeshadows, 1 eyeliner, 1 highlighter, there was a little brush but I've long lost it, it was not good at all.

So how does this palette fare....

Product: I have swatched the eyeshadows without any primer. Obviously underneath the primer (or the highlighter that comes in the palette) the shades would be more vibrant. But depending on the occasion I like to go both ways...sometimes more subtle without the extra bling or with the highlighter as a base to give extra pop.

As you can see they are not overly pigmented, but they are nevertheless very pretty. When working with this palette I don't feel I really need any matte eyeshadow for blending or transitioning because they are quite easy to blend and not so over the top shimmery. A tip for a more intense color payoff without using any primer is to press the eyeshadow on your lids with your ring finger. This is true for all eyeshadows actually as long as they are your own, and the finger is clean as not to contaminate your pan.

These colors can be built up to give a more opaque look, but they require some hard work. The colors are all workable, there are 2 lid colors, 2 mid tone crease colors, and 2 colors, and this is the kicker, both dark brown and dark grey for the outer V or for extra definition. All the shades are gorgeous.

As for the cream highlighter, its soft and easy to blend. I use it as a base or in the inner corners.

The eyeliner is a bit tricky to work with. It has a tacky consistency so I was disappointed that I could not get it to work as a base for the eyeshadows. They would become patchy and it was just not working. But I can still get a line with an eyeliner brush. Its quite difficult to blend out.

Its nice to throw in your bag, can achieve a multitude of looks with it. Wish it had a mirror though.
