Concealer Tips, Tricks, Alternative Uses and Some of my Picks

Today's post will be slightly different and concentrate more on the tips parts than the review parts, but fret not, at the end I'll be telling some of my higher and drugstore favs.

Now it’s common knowledge that concealer is used to cover up blemishes, marks or pigmentation and a warm toned one will do wonders for your eye circles. But we’ll discuss how we can use concealer in other ways to chisel the effect of you makeup.

1. USE IT AS A PRIMER: Concealer can make for a great primer since it even out the pigmentation on your eyelids and lips.

2. DIY EYE PRIMER: Just put equal parts concealer and a rich moisturizer with a little bit corn flour to make an excellent homemade eye primer. It totally works.

3. CLEAN UP EYESHADOW EDGES: Sometimes when you are applying eyeshadow, the edges are blended out but it looks uneven and messy. Swipe some concealer with a concealer brush from the edge of your eye upwards to your brow to clean up and get a professional finish.

4. CORRECT YOUR LIP LINE: For a nude to medium lip, apply concealer with a thin brush around your natural lip line, and if needed you can correct the little uneven bits, then apply your lip color, but if you are using a dark color or red then do this step after, you’ll be amazed.

5. TINTED MOISTURIZER: Put a dab of concealer in your moisturizer for your own tinted moisturizer. This will give you more coverage than putting in foundation.

6. HIGHLIGHTER: If you have a concealer (and we all do) that is light for your skin tone, use it as a natural highlighter on the high planes of your face and blend it out. This is amazing for a day look where shimmery powders will be too much.

7. CONTOUR: If you have a concealer that is too dark, use it as a contouring product. Many professional makeup artists actually prefer this method.

Some High End Picks:

MAC Select Cover Up, ideal for mature skin since the consistency is thin, yet highly pigmented and moisturizing.

Estee Lauder Double Wear- good for blemishes and hyper pigmentation, very high coverage.

Bobbi Brown Corrector- comes in pink and peach tones to color correct under eye circles. Very little is required to get the effect.

MAC Pro Long Wear, little thicker than Select Cover up, comes in so many shades, long lasting and good for all situations requiring concealing. Beware the pump that oozes a tonne of product out.

Some Drugstore Picks:

Maybelline Dream Lumitouch Concealer, brightens the under eye and can be used as highlighter.

Garnier Anti Dark Crircles- A medium coverage concealer with a warm tone and it is a treatment also.

Rimmel Match Perfection: A light to medium coverage foundation for blemishes that has a brightening effect also. Often compared to YSL Touch Eclat.

Maybelline Fit Me, a medium to high coverage all rounder concealer. Often compared to NARS concealer.

Revlon Photoready- Another good all rounder with the most silky and smooth feel ever.

I hope this was useful.

Please tell me your favorite concealers.
