This year the theme of my go to look has been the no makeup makeup look. Seriously, looking at my most reached for lippies I saw no hues of wine, burgundy or red. Not even deep pinks. I've used them on occasion, but not enough to make the list.
There's an idea for a new year's resolution: use more deeper shades.
I just love seeing what everyone out there has in their stash and what they love most. So let's just get into mine.
Here they are:
To Begin: Face Products
1. Primer: Too Faced Primed and Poreless- Great base for long lasting foundation, minimizes looks of pores, smells nice too.
2. Foundation: Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua (shade 30 Beige)- A great all year medium coverage foundation that sinks into the skin for a flawless finish. Read the review here.
3. Setting Powder: MAC Mineralized Skin Finish in Medium +, provides a little more coverage and keeps looking seamless.
4. Bronzer: Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess- great for contouring as well and totally love the brush that comes with it.
5. Highlighter- Can't beat theBalm's Mary-Lou Manizer,
6. Blushes: Again, no wines or dusky pinks, just my trust Instain Blush by theBalm in Argyle and Milani's infamous Luminoso.
7. Setting Powder: For the final touch a light dusting of MAC's Prep and Prime is great for a slight sheen and keeps makeup locked in.
7. Brushes: Giving my Beauty Blender a rest these days and reverted to plain old fingers or my classic Sigma F84 angled top Kabuki brush, Real Technique's Powder Blush, Real Technique's blush brush, Eco Tools blush brush for a more pronounced effect, and the RT contour brush for both contouring and highlighting.
And Now: Eye Products
1. Under Eye Concealer: Garnier Roll-on anti dark circles is wonderful.
2. Eye Primer: It's the Prestige Primed and Ready Eye Primer.
3. Eye Palettes: The Naked Basics is a staple but if I need a little colour then Vice 3 it has been. For mascara it's been the Scandal Eyes Mascara by Rimmel and for eyeliner pencils it's the Maybelline Colossal Kajal Pencil in 12 Hr Extra Black, UD's 24/7 pencil in Demolition, gel liner- Bobbi Brown in Black Ink and for liquid liner it's The Body Shop's Liquid Eye Liner.
4. Brushes: RT domed shadow brush is great for applying eye lid colour and so is The Body Shop's eye shadow brush. The Sigma E 25 brush is great for blending all over and the Bdellium 716 brush is great for the defined crease or delicate outer V work. The slanted brush by Essence is just great for applying eyeshadow as eye liner and to fill in sparse brows.
Oh look, there's my Baby Lips in the eye stash. In all fairness, you could dab a little bit on the center of the eye for that glossy vinyl look, only know that it will ultimately smudge.
Finally: Lip Products
Haven't been much into lips this season, I know mattes have made it in full time, and darker hues are every where, but as I said earlier, the no makeup makeup look....
1. Mac's Velvet Teddy is my all time favourite, great with any look, any dress, any occasion.
2. Lancome's Rouge in Love in the shade 200 B is the perfect light pink, it is not matte, but not glossy either, very comfortable to wear.
3. Finally a great coral lipstick by Color Studio Professional in Tornado 105 has a formula that is very close to MAC's and at just a fraction of the price.
4. Not that any of these lipsticks require a lip liner, but if I do use one, the Stay on Lip Liner by Nivea in 14 Nude Brown takes the prize. It's a beautiful nude shade that is very close to my own natural lip line.
Here are swatches in the order mentioned above:
