Setting Your Makeup

So after getting the perfect makeup for an event, you'll obviously want to set it so that it lasts you for a good six to eight hours. The best way to do that is to set it either with a translucent setting powder (white) or with a setting spray. The reason you don't want to set it with a pressed powder or colored loose powder is because all that hard work you put in to get the intensity of everything just right can change quite a bit by adding on more color at the end. Translucent powders will not do that, neither will setting sprays that are all the rave these days.

My go to:

The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist and Chanel Crystalline Powder

SETTING SPRAYS: These are great to use before makeup as well, but mostly just to spritz at the end of your makeup to lock in the makeup and make it more look more radiant. Another great tip is wet your eyeshadow brush with it to make them stand out more.

Some even have dewy or matte finishes. This one by the Body Shop is neither matte nor dewy. That's why I like it so much. It has a faint rose smell that fades in a while and its quite refreshing. After a couple of hours you can just spray it again and it makes your face look as good as new.

So many brands have these out now, but I have not had the pleasure of using another. My co-author has the one by MAC. But NYX do a couple with different finishes and so does ELF.

The great thing about setting sprays is that you can make your own and personalize it for your particular skin type.

What you will need: Spray bottle, 100 ml purified water, 2 tablespoons toner, 1 tsp rose water, a few drops of tea tree oil (for blemished or acne prone skin) or 2 tsp glycerin for dry skin. Voila.

SETTING POWDER: These also set your makeup but will not brighten the makeup, it will definitely pro long its wear, and depending on the finish of the powder, that will give your face the desired finishing touch. Again many brands have one or two in their arsenal. They can get pretty messy, and they are not convenient to pop in your bag. But companies have gotten around to making pressed versions as well.

The one mentioned above by Chanel just gives a lovely matte finish, but with hint of sheen. It just smooths everything out beautifully. It is pretty costly though.

Essence do a very good one at a very decent price point, MAC do one called prep and prime.

It comes down to you personal preference.

Well I hope this has been useful.
